If the Lumière brothers — the visionary fathers of cinema — hailed from anywhere in the US, there would be a giant amusement park erected in their memory. But in Lyon, France, there is just the elegant Institut Lumière — one of the most enjoyable and fascinating museum visits we’ve had on our trip so far.
I think YOU are the true geniuses, following in their footsteps… this “silent film” was brilliant! Loved it! THanks!

For their hundredths anniversary a collection of directors, including Arthur Penn, made short films which were gathered together in this one movie. Apparently uneven results, but I loved hearing about the project.
Yes, this film is on permanent display there at the museum. The best part is all the directors participating in a re-staging of the shot of the Workers Leaving The Factory.
Charlie Chaplin would have been proud of the Flackett-Levin band of mirth-makers.
While Sarah Bernhardt is rolling over in her grave!
As for the Brothers Lumiere…they’re smiling as broadly as I am.

Fabulous tribute by the darling Flackett-Levin troupe!
Just like our old home movies.
You guys have all the fun. We could never get our kids to museums. But you make it into an adventure. Kudos! Art + Inspiration = Fun
